Apple Expects to sell at least another 12 million units in 2008 worldwide. Apple keeps improving their gadget, and rumors are that they will soon release a 3G version iPhone for the European market. Which will probably increase its popularity even more. Apple Estimates that around 20% of the iPhones that are being sold are being unlocked. Which means breaking it free from network restrictions, so you can use any SIM card and any provider in your iPhone.
